In the aftermath of the 11 September crisis, Algeria has continued to
enjoy improving relations with leading countries abroad particularly
with the European Union and the USA who have promised to encourage
more investment while Arab neighbours remain keen to invest in key
sectors like telecoms and hotels. Algerian seems therefore likely to
experience a boost in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the non-oil
sector.
Economic and political relations with the EU and individual European
states continue to develop. Progress towards an Association Agreement
with the EU indicates that a deal may be agreed towards the end of
2001, although ratification of any agreement will take longer.
